Speegle Represents SWOSU at Nigh Academy
Southwestern Oklahoma State University student Jessica Speegle of Oklahoma City (Westmoore) recently attended the George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship Academy that took place early February in Oklahoma City.
Speegle was the SWOSU representative to the academy.
Throughout the five-day event, students visited the Oklahoma History Center, State Capitol, and former Governor George Nigh's home. Guest speakers included Chief Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court James Winchester; State Representatives Ryan McMullen, Susan Winchester and Scott Inman; Lt. Governor Jari Askins; State Senators Mike Morgan and Glenn Coffee; and United States Congressman Dan Boren.
Speegle was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for completing the program.
The academy was established by the state legislature in 2000 to honor the Nighs for their contributions to public service. Carl F. Reherman serves as director of the academy. Universities in Oklahoma are allowed to send one representative from each campus to the academy.
