Upward Bound Recruiting Elk City Students

Kristen West, a current Elk City junior, is involved with the Upward Bound program at SWOSU. Upward Bound identifies promising high school students and assists them with the transition to college. A six-week summer residential program on the Weatherford campus introduces high school students to the college experience through academic instruction and social activity.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University offers an educational opportunity to eligible high school students with no cost to families. 

 

Upward Bound, a TRiO program made possible through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, identifies promising high school students and assists them with the transition to college.  Academic instruction, individual tutoring, study skills development and motivational guidance help eligible students complete their high school curriculum in good standing.  The six-week summer residential program on the Weatherford campus introduces high school students to the college experience through academic instruction and social activity.

 

Jamie Novey, director of the Upward Bound program at SWOSU, said staff members are currently visiting with Elk City high school freshmen and sophomores.  Applications and more information can be obtained by the school counselor or the Upward Bound office at (580) 774-7029.
