SWOSU Westview Writer's Festival to Feature Brennan
March 25, 2008
Matthew C. Brennan, author of four books of poetry as well as three other books analyzing the poetry of others, will read from his works as the featured writer of the 2008 Westview Writers Festival coming up Tuesday, April 1, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
The 7 p.m. festival will be held in the SWOSU Conference Center, located at the corner of Davis and Seventh Streets in Weatherford. Admission is free, and the public is invited.
Brennan, an authority on the Romantic poetry of both England and America, is a professor of English and creative writing at Indiana State University. His third and fourth collections of poetry, The House with the Mansard Roof and The Sea-Crossing of Saint Brendan, are being released in 2008.
Brennan’s reading will be followed by a SWOSU/Weatherford open-mike session in which all comers are invited to read their own works of poetry, short prose fiction or nonfiction (maximum of two pages, double-spaced). A cash prize will be awarded to the reader whose work is judged to be the best of the best, and that work will be published in an upcoming edition of Westview.
Westview is the literary journal published twice a year by SWOSU’s Department of Language and Literature. It features poetry, short stories, essays, plays, and artwork from contributors across Oklahoma, the nation, and the world.
