SWOSU-Sayre Offers Summer Classes in Elk City
May 1, 2008
Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Sayre is offering two college classes in Elk City as part of its summer schedule.
College Algebra and English Composition I will be taught by SWOSU-Sayre faculty at Elk City High School Monday through Thursday afternoons beginning in June. College Algebra will meet from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. with English Composition I following from 3 until 4:15 p.m.
“This allows students who live or work in Elk City to take one or two college classes without leaving town,” said Landry Brewer of the Sayre campus.
The courses are available for adults as well as eligible high school juniors and seniors who have made certain ACT scores. Some seniors who meet certain requirements can take the classes without having to pay tuition costs as part of a state program.
Brewer said that eligible high school seniors may take up to two classes this summer, two this fall and two more next spring.
“Students who take two classes for three semesters during their senior year will graduate from high school with 18 college hours and be more than half-way to sophomore status,” Brewer said.
SWOSU-Sayre’s general education classes are transferable to other colleges and universities in Oklahoma.
Summer classes begin June 3 and end July 30. The SWOSU-Sayre summer and fall class schedules are available online at www.swosu.edu/resources/schedules.asp.
