SWOSU Adding Teen Pageant
A pageant within a pageant is coming to Southwestern Oklahoma State University this fall on the Weatherford campus.
The Miss Southwestern Scholarship Pageant Board recently voted to implement a Miss SWOSU Outstanding Teen Pageant in conjunction with the Miss SWOSU Pageant. Both events will be held on Saturday, October 25, on the SWOSU campus.
Debbie Brown, co-chair of the pageants, said the teen pageant is for girls ages 13-17 and is open to any girl in the state of Oklahoma, unlike the Miss SWOSU Pageant that is open to only SWOSU students.
The Miss Southwestern Pageant is an affiliate of the Miss Oklahoma/Miss America Scholarship Pageants.
“The board has been talking for several years about adding the teen pageant, and we thought this was the year to begin the new endeavor,” Brown said.
An informational meeting for teens will be Saturday, August 16, at 10 a.m. in the Skyview Room of the Memorial Student Center. Entry deadline for the pageant is August 29. The teen pageant is limited to the first eight contestants that sign up. A mandatory meeting for all the contestants is planned for September 18 at 6:15 p.m. in the Skyview Room of the Memorial Student Center.
The mission of the teen pageant is to provide an opportunity for Oklahoma’s young teenage ladies to compete in a first-class teen scholarship pageant and to encourage them to continue pursuing their talents, become positive influences in their communities and develop into mature, responsible women of the highest morals and integrity.
The entry fee is $125. To be eligible, girls can not turn 18 before July 31. The contract and entry forms are on the Miss SWOSU website at www.swosu.edu/students/miss-swosu/index.asp and then click on Miss SWOSU Outstanding Teen.
