SWOSU Students Tour PT Coupling Manufacturing Facility
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Society of Manufacturing Engineers on the Weatherford campus recently toured the PT Coupling manufacturing facility in Enid.
At PT Coupling, the students were given a tour of the entire facility by Walter Boeckman, engineering manager of the company. The students were able to see a sand casting foundry, heat treatment facility, and machine shop in action.
Brad Bryant, chair of the SWOSU Industrial and Engineering Technology Department, said the tours started at the beginning of the process where molds for sand castings are created followed by a glance at the process of pouring the molds with molten metal. The next process step was heat treatment followed by machining of the cast parts.
Bryant said the trip was a very enjoyable and educational experience for the industrial and engineering students. The trip will also help the Industrial and Engineering Technology Department of SWOSU create a relationship with PT Coupling for future employment opportunities for SWOSU graduates.
The SWOSU group included a total of 21 students and three faculty advisors—Bryant, Brad Fitzgerald and Dr. James Asante.
