Silent Witness Exhibition Planned This Friday at SWOSU
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and a silent witness exhibit is planned this Friday, October 10, on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford.
Violence Intervention, Prevention, and Early Response (VIPER) in conjunction with the SWOSU Collegiate Activities Board (CAB) will host the exhibition from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the west lobby of the Memorial Student Center.
"CAB is doing this because we are always looking for ways to serve and improve our campus," said Heather Leach, CAB VIPER Committee Chair and a SWOSU junior from Owasso. " I am involved because I feel that it is important for people to realize that domestic violence is a very real thing."
Everyone is encouraged to stop by to view the exhibit, read the victim’s stories and afterwards participate in an ‘8 ½ by 11’ contest. Contest rules invite individuals to express feelings with regards to the exhibit on an 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper using art, poetry, etc. Contest entries will be displayed in the Student Center throughout October. On October 31, three names will be selected to receive prizes which include an iPod shuffle, a $50 University Bookstore card and a SWOSU gift basket.
Cindy Dougherty, dean of students, said this event is designed to educate the campus on all aspects of the SWOSU VIPER Program and its many aspects and offerings. Wendy Henson, VIPER coordinator, can be reached at 580.774.6037 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
