SWOSU Homecoming Winners Announced
Winners of the various competitions held during Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming celebration on November 1 in Weatherford have been announced.
Abigail Ntreh of Oklahoma City (Westmoore) and Stetson Schmitt of Mountain Grove (MO) were crowned Homecoming Queen and King during halftime of the SWOSU football game victory.
At the parade, SWOSU’s Psychology Club won first place and $1,300 in the float competition. Kappa Gamma Beta/Kappa Delta Omega won second place and $800, while Residence Life finished third and won $400. Fourth place winner of $100 was Sigma Sigma Chi.
The prize money was sponsored by the SWOSU Alumni Association, SWOSU Student Government Association and several Weatherford financial institutions.
In the marching band contest, Sayre High School was named the outstanding band in the high school competition, and Watonga 7th-8th Middle School won top honors in the junior high band competition. Each band won $250 from the SWOSU Student Government Association.
Other band winners were: Middle School—Watonga 7th-8th Middle School, first place; Kingfisher Middle School, second place. Class 2A High School—Corn Bible Academy, first place; and Maysville High School, second place. Class 3A High School—Sayre High School, first place; Hinton High School, second place; and Hobart High School, third place. Class 4A High School—Weatherford High School, first place.
Neff Hall won first place and $300 in the Lawn Decoration contest. SWOSU Student Government Association finished second and won $200 and Rogers & Jefferson Hall finished third and won $100.
The SWOSU Dean of Students Office won the staff/faculty contest with its office door display.
In the 5K run/walk, SWOSU students Stephanie Jones and Rachel Ingram finished as the top two runners. Jones finished in a time of 18 minutes and 5 seconds, while Ingram was one second behind at 18:6. Brian Johnston of Weatherford finished third at 20:46.
At the Classic Car Show, Debbie Van Huff won the President’s Choice Award with a 1970 Pontiac Sport, while Marion Davidson won the Best of Show Award with his 1955 T-Bird. Kenneth Thornborough won the People’s Choice Award with his Model T.
