Edgar Cruz Concert at SWOSU Set for November 20

November 10, 2008

Edgar CruzEdgar Cruz, an internationally-known award-winning classical and finger style guitarist from Oklahoma City, will perform at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, November 20.

The 7 p.m. concert will be held in the Fine Arts Center on the Weatherford campus, and admission is free. The event is sponsored by the SWOSU Al Harris Library.

Cruz has been named Oklahoma’s Top Performing Artist and Acoustic Guitarist for over 10 years by the Oklahoma Gazette.  Each year he performs over 200 concerts and has played throughout America, Europe and South America.  He has been a headliner at the Chet Atkins Festival in Nashville (TN) since 1995 and is a strong icon at most festivals in Oklahoma, including the Festival of the Arts, Paseo Festival, Sunfest, Global Oklahoma and more.

Cruz blends classical techniques with modern songs in a crowd-pleasing combo that leaves fans marveling at his virtuosity.  Those who have witnessed Edgar Cruz’s performance immediately become entranced at the precision, speed and complexity with which his fingers strike the strings of his guitar to create a symphony of sound that is unusual to just one instrument. Cruz's CDs and DVDs cover moods from Latin, Classical, International, Rock, Jazz, Mariachi, Romantic and Christmas.

His interest in music began at an early age when he began playing the guitar with his father at restaurants and clubs in Oklahoma City.
