SWOSU Student Wins Park and Recreation Training Award

Drew Hughes Wins Award
Drew Hughes (right) recently received a Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute Scholarship for continued training for his job at the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site. Making the presentation is Ken Beam, the 2009 SWPRTI president and district manager of the Dallas Park and Recreation Western Region.

Drew Hughes, who is working on his master's degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, recently received a Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute Scholarship.

Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute offers educational sessions for park and recreation professionals to assist students in maintaining relevant professional certifications.

Hughes is a 2004 Drummond High School graduate and holds a bachelor's degree in park law enforcement from SWOSU.  He works fulltime as a park guide at Washita Battlefield National Historic Site near Cheyenne.

The institute allows students to attend educational sessions and hear from keynote speakers. Hughes was chosen to receive the award based on his academic performance and resume. Hughes was also the recipient of last year's undergraduate award from the institute.
