Southwestern Oklahoma State University faculty members Madeline Baugher and Frank White recently received a grant in the amount of $2,000 from the Oklahoma NASA Space Consortium through the University of Oklahoma for a project titled "First Robotics".

Madeline Baugher, principal investigator (PI), is an instructor in the SWOSU Department of Entrepreneurship & Computer Systems and has been working with SWOSU-NASA grants for several years. Frank White, co-PI and instructor in the SWOSU Department of Industrial & Engineering Technology, will use the funds for equipment needed to facilitate a robotics competition program at SWOSU. The competition is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2010.

The goals behind the robotics program include exposing western Oklahoma high school students to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program and promoting SWOSU and the Department of Industrial & Engineering Technology and Department of Entrepreneurship & Computer Science.

Questions regarding the robotics competition or the SWOSU STEM program can be answered by contacting White at (580) 774-3160 or by email at frank.white@swosu.edu or Baugher at (580) 774-3122 or at madeline.baugher@swosu.edu.
