SWOSU Music Department Plans Many Concerts April 19-24
The Music Department at Southwestern Oklahoma State University has a full week of concerts planned for April 19 through April 24 on the Weatherford campus.
Every major ensemble in the university will perform that week, and there will be something for every musical taste, according to SWOSU Music Department Chair Dr. James South.
The concerts are free and the public is cordially invited.
Starting off the week will be a Sunday, April 19, concert by Jazz Ensembles A and B at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Jazz Ensemble B is directed by Dr. Terry Segress and Jazz Ensemble A is directed by Dr. Keith Talley.
On Monday evening, April 20, the Community Chorus, directed by Daniel Farris, will perform a 7 p.m. concert in the Fine Arts Center lobby.
The SWOSU Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Robert Chambers, will be featured on Tuesday, April 21, at 8:15 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center lobby.
The Symphonic and Community Bands will perform on Wednesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. The Symphonic Band is conducted by Dr. Terry Segress and the Community Band is conducted by Dr. James South.
Then on Thursday, April 23, a choral concert featuring several choirs will take place at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center lobby. Featured choirs are: The SWOSU Men's Chorus, directed by Daniel Farris; the SWOSU Women's Chorus, directed by Joyce Adams Curtis; the SWOSU Chamber Choir, directed by Daniel Farris; and The Southwestern Singers, directed by Charles Klingman. Because of Klingman's retirement, this will be his last performance as a conductor at SWOSU.
Rounding out the full week of concerts will be a performance by the SWOSU Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. James South, on Friday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium.
