SWOSU Receives $150,000 Donation from Homer Ryan
Homer Ryan of Frederick has established an endowed professorship in accounting at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Ryan recently pledged $150,000 to the SWOSU Foundation for the professorship, and that amount is scheduled to be matched by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to create a $300,000 endowment. Ryan presented $50,000 of the pledge at a recent Foundation board meeting.
"Homer Ryan has been a loyal alum to Southwestern Oklahoma State University and we appreciate so much his generosity in establishing this endowment with our School of Business & Technology," SWOSU President John Hays said. "These types of gifts mean so much to SWOSU."
Ryan, a 1967 graduate of SWOSU, is chair of the SWOSU Foundation's scholarship committee and has been a member of the board since 1993.
After graduating from Frederick High School in 1963, Ryan came to SWOSU on a football scholarship. He graduated from SWOSU with a degree in accounting and business administration.
Ryan owned John Deere dealerships in Frederick and Wichita Falls (TX) for over 30 years and currently operates his farming and ranching investments. He is very active in the Frederick community. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, Country Club and a board member of the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton. For over 35 years, Ryan has played a significant role in the Tillman County Junior Livestock Show. And, for many years, Ryan served on the Frederick School Board.
He and his wife, Sharon, have two children and two grandchildren.
