SWOSU-Sayre Hospitality Program's First Class Offered this Fall
Southwestern Oklahoma State University-Sayre is starting its new Hospitality, Restaurant and Gaming Management program and the first class-Introduction to Hotel, Restaurant & Gaming Management-will be offering during the upcoming 2009 fall semester on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. on the Sayre campus.
Students who are beginning the new two-year program in Hospitality, Restaurant and Gaming Management will be introduced to the relationship between the travel and hospitality industry; the study of hotel, restaurant and gaming operations; and tourism agencies. Career opportunities will also be explored.
"Employment opportunities abound in this field in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle," said SWOSU-Sayre Dean Jim James. "SWOSU wants to give area residents marketable skills to meet the workforce demands in this industry."
It is projected that Oklahoma will need 21,000 more workers in this industry in the next decade. Completion of the associate degree program will train students for supervisory jobs. The hospitality degree includes internships and other work experience.
Enrollment for the fall semester is underway. Classes begin August 19.
