October is breast cancer awareness month, and the Weatherford chapter of the American Association of University Women made 32 baskets that are being distributed in various communities to help spread the word.

Debbie Brown, president of the AAUW chapter, said members recognize the risk and impact that breast cancer can have on women's lives. Two AAUW members are breast cancer survivors, and one member lost a sister to breast cancer.

Each year, members put together the baskets containing mints and other items featuring the pink ribbon logo, encouragement for women to monitor their breast health, and messages of hope and support.  Baskets are sponsored by the members themselves, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation donated breast self exam cards.

The AAUW works to promote education and equity for women and girls.  For more information, contact Brown at (580) 774-3063.
