Hays and Brown Sign Domestic Violence Awareness Proclamation
In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a joint effort has been made between Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the City of Weatherford to create a Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation.
The proclamation, signed by SWOSU President John Hays and Weatherford Mayor Mike Brown, will be read during halftime activities of SWOSU's home football game on Saturday, October 31, at 2 p.m.
For those interested in reading the proclamation in its entirety, it is available at: http://www.swosu.edu/administration/viper/docs/proclamation.pdf
Earlier this month, SWOSU hosted the Silent Witness Exhibit for the second year, and over 225 people visited the exhibit, which features red silhouettes representing a man, woman or child who died as a result of domestic violence in Oklahoma. Wendy Henson, director of the violence prevention program (VIPER) at SWOSU, said the Silent Witness Exhibit, created by the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (OCADVSA), was sponsored by VIPER and the Custer County District Attorney's Office. Representatives from Action Associates and the American Association of University Women also contributed to the event.
