SWOSU Greek Council Organizing Blood Drive for February 1-2
A blood drive in honor of the late Dr. Roger Bromert will be held Monday and Tuesday, February 1-2, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Sponsoring the blood drive is the SWOSU Greek Council.
Kayla DeWitt, chair of the Greek Council blood drive, said everyone is invited to participate in the drive that is 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days in the SWOSU Wellness Center.
DeWitt said the council was planning to host a campus-wide blood donating competition at this drive when Dr. Bromert passed away.
"We feel this is an important way to honor him," said DeWitt. "He was a well-respected, well-liked member of our faculty and a blood donor. He was also a social activist and we think he would like this."
The entire SWOSU campus and the public are being challenged to give blood in his honor. There will be a giant card at the drive where donors can send their regards to his family.
"The SWOSU Greeks are the big engine behind this blood drive," said Richard Story, blood program consultant with the Oklahoma Blood Institute. "We will have the competition and the Greeks will be judged based on the numbers of people who donate in the name of their fraternity or sorority."
He went on to say that many groups at SWOSU are very supportive of the blood drives held at SWOSU. Some of the major groups include pharmacy and pre-pharmacy students, athletics, the Student Government Association and the Wellness Center staff.
