Lynne Thurman Named SWOSU Assistant to the President for Institutional Advancement
Lynne Thurman has been named assistant to the president for institutional advancement at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Thurman fills the spot of Jim Waites, who will retire from SWOSU at the end of the fall semester.
Thurman, who has been serving as director and chief executive officer of the Stafford Air & Space Museum in Weatherford since 2006, will head the SWOSU Foundation and SWOSU Alumni Association. She will serve as assistant to SWOSU President Randy Beutler.
"I am extraordinarily honored to accept this position," Thurman said. "Under the leadership of Jim Waites, the Foundation and Alumni Association have achieved remarkable success. I'm very much looking forward to working with President Beutler, the SWOSU administration, faculty, staff and alumni/friends as well as the outstanding Foundation and Alumni Association boards."
Thurman has over 30 years experience in marketing and advertising, owning three businesses which provided promotion for top 500 companies including Coke, Prudential Insurance, Conoco-Phillips and Kerr-McGee plus illustrating for many published novels and national magazines.
Thurman served as the chief advisor for creating and implementing Francis Tuttle Technology Center's commercial art program and has been an instructor at both the university level and in the public school system for over 15 years. She also serves on the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Tourism Board, and has served on the Board of Directors for Oklahoma Great Plains Country.
She received her undergraduate degree in advertising and marketing from the University of Central Oklahoma and a M.Ed. degree from Wayland Baptist University.
She is married to SWOSU Athletics Director Todd Thurman. They have two sons-Nick, who is currently a sophomore at SWOSU, and Alex, a junior at Weatherford High School.
