The 15th annual TubaChristmas celebration was recently held at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and 114 tuba and euphonium students and teachers from 24 schools participated in the concert held on the Weatherford campus.

Dr. Terry Segress and Dr. James South, both of the SWOSU Music Department, conducted the concert.

South said the event has grown in size every year and has had over 100 attendees each of the last three years.  The students and teachers participated in a rehearsal and a public concert.

Dr. South is director of bands and chair of the SWOSU Music Department, and Dr. Segress is professor of tuba and former chair of the department. Segress began the SWOSU TubaChristmas celebration in 1996.  Harvey Phillips, the late tuba professor at Indiana University, founded TubaChristmas in 1974 in New York City.  The event is held in numerous cities across the USA.
