Benda to Represent SWOSU at Nigh Academy

Southwestern Oklahoma State University junior Erica Benda of Union City will represent Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford at the upcoming George and Donna Nigh Public Leadership Scholarship Academy February 4-8 in Oklahoma City.
Benda will participate in the 12th annual academy that will allow students to visit and learn from various leaders across the state and nation.
Benda, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship for completing the program, is majoring in chemistry and biology at SWOSU. She is a member of the Chemistry Club, Biology Club and Chi Alpha. Benda has been active in research studies at SWOSU and has been involved in various organizations such as Relay for Life, Special Olympics, Chi Alpha and the Agape Health Clinic in Weatherford. She is a graduate of Union City High School.
The Nigh Academy was established by the state legislature in 2000 to honor the Nighs for their contributions to public service. Carl F. Reherman serves as director of the academy. Universities in Oklahoma are allowed to send one representative from each campus to the academy.
