“Core Tasks of Psychotherapy: What ‘Expert’ Therapists Do” is a workshop featuring Dr. Donald Meichenbaum that is coming up Friday, April 15, on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford.

Dr. Meichenbaum is research director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention in Miami (FL). He is one of the founders of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and in a survey of North American clinicians, Meichenbaum was voted one of the top 10 most influential psychotherapists of the 20th Century.

The SWOSU Psychology Department is hosting the workshop. Assistant Professor Dr. Amy Barnett said the workshop is open to the public and continuing education credits are available for interested individuals. The registration fee is $115 for professionals and $35 for students. A box lunch is available for $10. Additional information is available by calling (580) 774-3725 or emailing psych@swosu.edu.

Barnett said the workshop is made possible by a generous contribution from Dr. David and Dianne Hunter of Oklahoma City.

The program will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. on April 15 in the Memorial Student Center Ballroom.
