SWOSU SGA Begins Filing Period for Senate Seats

Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Student Government Association has begun the filing period for student senator positions.
The positions are open to all SWOSU students who are enrolled full-time. The SWOSU student government is broken into three separate but equal branches, comparable to the United States government, with executive, legislative and judicial branches. Student senators make up the Legislative branch.
Fifteen seats are allocated to each of the three academic colleges on campus—Arts and Sciences, Pharmacy, and Professional and Graduate Studies. In the event that more than 15 students file in a particular college, school-wide elections are held online on Desire2Learn.
All candidates will be given time to campaign before such elections. Filing forms can be downloaded from the Student Government Association’s website at www.swosu-sga.org or can be picked up at the SGA House on the SWOSU campus. Filing ends at 5 p.m. on August 25.
Students are encouraged to join SGA. The SGA is the main representative of the student body to the Faculty Senate. Other activities of SGA include SWOSUpalooza, managing Homecoming events, Bingo Night, Organizational Fair, “Dawg Days” events, and scholarships for Miss Southwestern and the Southwestern mascot.
