September 22, 2011

The Guard Officer Leadership Development (GOLD) program at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford continues to grow, and members of GOLD are having a hot dog cookout and bake sale on Saturday, October 1, to raise money for various supplies.

Jesse Hernandez said the cookout/bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. in front of United Supermarkets. All food/drinks will be available for a donation, and everyone is invited.

Hernandez said supplies that are needed for the program include such items as water jugs, military compasses, uniforms, paint ball guns for training, tactical combat vests, ruck sacks and boots. The GOLD will also have boots set up in various stores plus onsite at the cookout/bake sale.

The Oklahoma Army National Guard program is geared to develop future officers, who will be federal-recognized commission officers. For more information on the GOLD program, call (580) 774-6034.
