Four SWOSU Choirs to Perform October 6
The SWOSU Choral Department will present four choirs in concert this Thursday, October 6, at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center.
Dr. Daniel Farris will conduct the Men’s Chorus and Southwestern Singers in works by Franz Schubert, C. Morimer Wiske, Cecil Forsyth, Felix Mendelssohn and Charles Villers Stanford. The pianist for the Men’s Chorus is SWOSU faculty member Janis South.
The Women’s Chorus, under the direction of Joyce Adams Curtis, will sing the Renaissance piece Sicut rosa, by Orlandus Lassus, and 20th century pieces Gentle Nature by Eleanor Daley, In Autumn by Gwyneth Walker, and Praise His Holy Name by Keith Hampton. Pianist is Angela Farris and soloists on In Autumn are Jorga Hammond, Amarillo (TX), and Courteney Harrald, Siloam Springs (AR).
The Chamber Choir, also directed by Curtis, will perform Renaissance madrigals, Sing we and chant it by Thomas Morley, and The Silver Swan by Orlando Gibbons. Also programmed are Felix Mendelssohn’s Drei Volkslieder, a Syrian/Iraqi song Fōg Elnā Khel arranged by Salim Bali, and Aaron Copland’s Zion’s Walls. Dr. Robin Griffeath, new adjunct voice instructor at SWOSU, will perform the tenor solos in the Bali. Dr. Dennis Widen will serve as pianist on the Copland piece.
Admission is free to the concert, and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.
