Winners Named for SWOSU Homecoming Celebration
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming in Weatherford on October 15 was full of events, and winners of the various competitions have been announced.
Eryn Pennello of Lawton (Eisenhower) and Andrew Johnson of Rowlett (TX) were crowned Homecoming Queen and King during halftime of the SWOSU football game.
At the parade, SWOSU’s Kappa Delta Omega sorority won first place and $1,300 in the float competition. The Weatherford Middle School cheerleaders won second place and $800, while the SWOSU cheer and pom squads finished third and won $500.
The prize money was sponsored by the SWOSU Alumni Association, SWOSU Student Government Association and several Weatherford financial institutions.
In the marching band contest, Oktaha High School from eastern Oklahoma was named the outstanding band in the high school competition and won $250 from the SWOSU Student Government Association.
Other band winners were: Class 2A High School—Waukomis High School, first place; and Corn Bible Academy, second place. Class 3A High School—Oktaha High School, first place; and Chisholm High School, second place. Class 4A High School—Weatherford High School, first place. Class 5A High School—El Reno High School, first place.
In the parade bicycle decorating/costume contest, Jordan Howard, a fifth grader from
Weatherford, won first place dressed as “Pure SWOSU.” Weatherford second grader Owen Binder dressed as a fire clown won second place and pre-kindergartener Blaine Kelley dressed as buzz light year won third place.
The SWOSU Department of Education won the staff/faculty contest with its office display and the SWOSU Chemistry Club won the lawn decorations contest.
