Corporation Commissioner Chair Dana Murphy to Speak at Understanding Mineral Rights Series at SWOSU
Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Chair Dana Murphy will be guest speaker at the upcoming “Understanding Mineral Rights in Oklahoma” seminar on Thursday, October 27, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
The SWOSU Continuing Education program is free and open to the public. Murphy will speak on “The Changing Dynamics of Oklahoma Energy and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission” at 6 p.m. in the SWOSU Conference Center, located at the corner of Seventh and Davis Streets.
Murphy’s talk is the second of three free seminars for mineral owners and interested parties in western Oklahoma.
Born in Woodward, Commissioner Murphy is a fifth-generation Oklahoman deeply committed to her home state. After practicing as a geologist for 10 years, she obtained her law degree while working and attending night school at Oklahoma City University. In 2008, she was first elected to the statewide office of Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner for a partial two-year term. Then in 2010, she was re-elected to a full six-year term and earlier this year was elected chair of the OCC.
She has more than 22 years experience in the petroleum industry including owning and operating a private law firm focused on oil and gas title, regulatory practice and transactional work and working as a geologist.
Commissioner Murphy lives in Edmond but continues to be actively involved with her family’s farm and ranch in Ellis County, Oklahoma.
This seminar is part of the SWOSU Continuing Education programs that are focusing on exploring issues regarding oil and gas in Oklahoma. Chesapeake’s James Roller and Steve Schmidt were guest speakers at the first event that attracted 75 people from across western Oklahoma. The final upcoming program is:
- November 10: Legal Aspects of Mineral Rights and Property Management, Speakers David Duncan and Mart Tisdal
