SWOSU Upward Bound Continues to Host Saturday Academy
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Upward Bound program continues its Saturday Academy, preparing high school students for the ACT and other college planning, through the month of April on the Weatherford campus.
Upward Bound is a federally funded program for low-income, potential first generation college students who strive to achieve a postsecondary education after high school graduation.
Two Saturdays per month from September until April, high school students in grades 9-12 attend one of two locations for help in ACT preparation. Eight high schools participate in the program.
Students from Weatherford, Watonga, Burns Flat-Dill City and Elk City travel to the Weatherford campus of SWOSU, while participants from Anadarko, Clinton, Carnegie and Fort Cobb-Broxton visit the Anadarko location. Two teachers appear at each site along with approximately 30 attendees. On the SWOSU campus, the Math Department volunteers their computer lab for additional learning.
