Eighteen High Schools Coming to SWOSU Speech Tournament
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Communication and Theatre will hold its annual speech tournament this Friday and Saturday, February 10-11, on the Weatherford campus.
The event starts at 2 p.m. each day in the Campbell Building. Area high schools attending the tournament include: Alva, Bethany, Blanchard, Cement, Cherokee, Cheyenne, Cordell, Fairview, Hammon, Hobart, Hollis, Lawton Academy, Marlow, Meeker, Okarche, Okeene, Oklahoma Christian and Shattuck.
Friday’s agenda will consist of Team Debate and Lincoln Douglas debate, while Saturday will have individual events including: Dramatic Duet, Dramatic Interpretation, Domestic and Foreign Extemporaneous Speech, Humorous Duet, Humorous Interpretation, Monologue, Original Oratory, Poetry, Prose and Standard Oratory.
According to Dr. Robin Jones, chair of the department, the judges for the competition are the school’s coaches and SWOSU students.
The awards ceremony will be held in the Hilltop Theatre on Saturday. Medals will be awarded to first, second and third place winners for the individual events and first, second and third place sweepstakes teams which score the most points.
