OSSAA Instrumental Solo and Ensemble this Saturday at SWOSU
Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host 19 high schools and middle schools for the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest this Saturday, February 25, on the Weatherford campus.
Contests will be held in the Ed & Winnie Ola Berrong Music Hall as well as the Fine Arts Center.
Schools from across the western region of Oklahoma will meet at SWOSU for the district competition. A total of 259 soloists will perform, and 62 ensembles also take the stage. Competitors will play music on brass, woodwind, percussion and stringed instruments. Solos will be performed individually or with a pianist in accompaniment. Small chamber music will be played in duets, trios, quartets and quintets.
The general public is invited to attend the competition and create an audience for the musicians. Students who receive a division one rating will qualify for the State Solo and Ensemble Contest later this year.
SWOSU’s Tau Beta Sigma fraternity will assist in organization of the event.
