March 26, 2012
The Jazz Ambassadors, the United States Army's premier touring big band, will perform a free concert this Saturday, March 31, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
The 7 p.m. concert will be held in the Fine Arts Center and is sponsored by the SWOSU Department of Music and the Weatherford Daily News.
Even though admission is free, area residents are asked to pick up tickets at one of the following locations: SWOSU Public Relations & Marketing Office (Room 205 of Administration Building), SWOSU Music Office in the Fine Arts Center, and the Weatherford Daily News office in downtown Weatherford.
The 19-member ensemble, formed in 1969, has received great acclaim both at home and abroad performing America's original art form, jazz.
Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are designed to entertain all types of audiences. Custom compositions and arrangements highlight the group's creative talent and gifted soloists. Their diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland and patriotic selections.
The band has appeared in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India and throughout Europe.
