OLs Plan Blood Drive for April 9-10 at SWOSU
April 2, 2012
The Oklahoma Blood Institute will be on the Weatherford campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday and Tuesday, April 9-10, partnering with SWOSU’s Orientation Leaders for a blood drive.
The blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day in the SWOSU Wellness Center. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
New Student Orientation Coordinator Shelby Unruh said the OLs are trying a new challenge for this drive. Donors will register their eye color as they donate, with the top eye color receiving bragging rights for their effort.
Orientation Leaders have also been split into teams. Donors will select a group of OLs and their donation will count towards the team’s points. Participants will also receive a free t-shirt.
According to information from the OBI, one blood donation can save up to three lives. Yet, less than 10 percent of eligible Americans donate. Blood supplies are at a critical level. Unruh urges all able citizens to donate.
OBI consultant Richard Story said everyone is encouraged to make sure to eat well, get a good night’s sleep and drink plenty of fluids before donating.
