Southwestern Oklahoma State University students cast their votes, and two Guymon females will lead the SWOSU Student Government during the 2012-13 year.

Winning the presidential and vice presidential races were running mates Maria Ortega and Alejandra DeSantiago, both of Guymon.  Ortega and DeSantiago narrowly edged out opponents Mary Lawless and Mat Cooper. The race for treasurer was also close with Cassandra Klein defeating Joanie Velles.

Ortega is a biology major at SWOSU and has participated in SGA for four years. DeSantiago is an allied health science major and has taken part in SGA for two and a half years. Klein is a pre-med major from Keokuk (IA) and has participated in SGA for the past year.

President Ortega said she is honored to be elected and hopes to carry on the work John Saluke started with the Student Senate. Her main goals are to promote diversity within SGA and increase student participation and representation. She wants SGA to be the organization where campus leaders can meet and learn what it takes to fulfill the needs of the students.
