Segars Named SWOSU College of Pharmacy Outstanding Alumnus for 2012
Dr. Larry W. Segars, chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Microbiology at the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, has been named the 2012 Outstanding Alumnus of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy in Weatherford.
Segars was honored during the recent SWOSU College of Pharmacy Awards and White Coat Ceremony held on the SWOSU campus.
The Outstanding Alumnus award is presented each year to an individual demonstrating exceptional support of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy and outstanding personal achievements in the profession.
Segars is a 1986 graduate of SWOSU. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 1989. He subsequently received his Doctor of Public Health degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 2006.
In addition to his chair duties, Segars currently serves as associate professor of pharmacology and preventive medicine at the Kansas City school. He served on the SWOSU faculty from 1990-1995 and was named the AACP Teacher of the Year for SWOSU in 1995.
Segars is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. He has published numerous papers and abstracts in the medical and pharmaceutical literature. He is a former grand president of Phi Delta Chi professional pharmacy fraternity.
He and his wife Denise, also a graduate of the SWOSU COP, are both lifetime members of the SWOSU Pharmacy Alumni Association.
