SWOSU Students Win $27, 250 in Scholarship Money from Mind Games Competition
May 29, 2012
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Mind Games teams were very successful during the inaugural season of the academic challenge game, and SWOSU ended up winning $27,250 in scholarship money—the most among all universities in Oklahoma.
Mind Games was aired this year on KSBI-TV in Oklahoma City. SWOSU won the spring semester championship title while the University of Central Oklahoma won the fall semester title. SWOSU won more scholarship money than UCO, $27,250-$20,750, for the entire year even though UCO edged SWOSU, 300-240, in the battle between the fall and spring semester title holders.
SWOSU coach Kevin Collins said team members won impressive scholarship money and believes more students will become interested in future Mind Games competitions because of the scholarship money.
Before the season started, the SWOSU team had voted on a way to divide any prize money that was won during the event. The teams voted to donate approximately 10% of their winnings to the SWOSU General Scholarship Fund, which resulted in a $2,240 donation.
