SWOSU Upward Bound Program Receives Grant to Help Students in Six Area Schools
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Upward Bound program in Weatherford recently received a $378,592 federal grant to continue operating for the next five years.
SWOSU Upward Bound Director Jamie Novey said the U.S. Department of Education provides the grant to facilitate the program for six area high schools: Anadarko, Burns Flat – Dill City, Carnegie, Clinton, Fort Cobb–Broxton and Watonga.
Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded program for students who are interested in postsecondary education after graduation from high school. Students attend monthly academic meetings and participate in an online tutoring program.
Students also receive assistance with financial aid and college admission applications, preparation for the ACT, an ACT fee waiver, will visit college campuses, and will be exposed to professional careers and mentors. During the summer, students live on the SWOSU campus and participate in a full schedule of academic, social (including sports), and cultural activities for six weeks.
