SWOSU Offering New Program for Hospitality Industry Professionals
A new certification program has been added in the Hotel, Restaurant & Gaming Management Program (HRGM) at Southwestern Oklahoma State University—Sayre campus.
SWOSU offers an associate degree in HRGM through the College of Associate & Applied Sciences and the new certification program will compliment the existing program and begin this upcoming Fall 2012 semester.
Bill D’Alessandro, HRGM program director, said the new program is aimed at hospitality professionals who currently work or have worked in the field wishing to pursue career advancement and promotion. The new certificate program is based on eight courses, 24 college credit hours that are solely hospitality-management based.
In the certificate program, students will take courses such as Human Resource Management, Leadership & Management Skills, Hotel Front Office Procedures, Restaurant Cost Controls and Legal Issues in Gaming. Specialties are offered in Hotel, Restaurant, or Gaming Management.
Classes are offered in the traditional classroom setting at the Sayre campus, through interactive video to the Weatherford campus and online through web-based classes of distance learning.
“Current hospitality professionals have gained valuable knowledge and skills through their work efforts in day-to-day operations,” D’Alessandro said. “Now they can gain college education in hospitality to compliment and enhance those practical skills.”
