Teams Sought for American Cancer Society Relay For Life Event
Volunteers and teams—including Southwestern Oklahoma State University student organizations—are being sought for the 2013 Relay For Life of Custer County, which will be held April 19-20.
A letter writing party and meeting will take place at 7 p.m. this Monday, January 14, at SWOSU in Stafford Room 232 to provide information to those interested in forming a team.
Shelby Unruh said Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer. Relay For Life raises awareness about the progress against cancer while also raising funds to fight the disease.
Teams gather at the SWOSU Wellness Center to participate in Relay For Life. Teams do much of their fundraising prior to the event, but many teams also hold creative fundraisers at their campsites throughout the event. Additionally, games, entertainment and auctions take place throughout the evening, making it a fun event that people of all ages can enjoy.
Unruh said the letter writing party on Monday is one of the easiest fundraisers for team members. All participants need to do is bring addresses for family and friends to the meeting, and the Relay For Life committee will provide the rest.
