STEMentor Project Looking for SWOSU Students
As part of a NASA Space Grant Consortium, SWOSU will participate in the STEMentor project over the coming months.
The goal of the program is retaining students in STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math) fields and increasing the number of teachers in STEM fields.
Freshmen majoring in the areas of STEM will be partnered with juniors majoring in education. The STEMentor program hopes to aid both students. The STEM majors will tutor the education students in STEM areas, while the juniors will help freshmen assimilate to campus life.
Both the freshmen and juniors have the opportunity to earn up to $800 for their participation. Tutors will be paid for tri-weekly meetings, successful test-taking and continued involvement. Some monies will be distributed in the form of scholarships.
The deadline to enroll in the STEMentor program is Wednesday, January 23, by 5 p.m. For more information, please contact SWOSU Coordinator of Student Teaching & Field Experiences Bruce Belanger at 580.774.3136 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
