Massacre at the Wichita Focus of Next Week's Program at SWOSU Sayre

Massacre at the Washita is the focus of a series of programs next week being presented by Southwestern Oklahoma State University-Sayre.

SWOSU President Randy Beutler, SWOSU Department of Social Sciences instructor Dr. Sunu Kodumthara and Corporation for National and Community Service Tribal Liaison Alden Whiteman will present the three-part program on A Cultural and Historic Perspective of the Massacre at the Washita.

The seminars are free. The only cost is for a field trip to the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site, which will include lunch provided by Smokin Aces Catering.  

Program dates and topics are:

  • Tuesday, April 23
    6-8 p.m. SWOSU-Sayre Campus, Conner Building 313

    Dr. Randy Beutler and Dr. Sunu Kodumthara present “An Historic Perspective of the Massacre at the Washita”
  • Thursday, April 25
    6-8 p.m. SWOSU-Sayre Campus, Conner Building 313

    Alden Whiteman presents “White Buffalo Woman: A Granddaughter’s Perspective”
  • Saturday, April 27
    Bus leaves at 9 a.m. from SWOSU-Sayre Campus

    Field trip to the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site with a special presentation by Bob Rea from the Oklahoma Historical Society and director of the Fort Supply Historic Site

Space for the field trip is limited and the registration deadline is April 23. The registration form and liability release form can be found at http://www.swosu.edu/administration/osp/ce/forms.asp or individuals can visit the Office of Sponsored Programs and Continuing Education in Administration Building Room 201 on the Weatherford campus or the Dean’s Office on the SWOSU/Sayre campus.
