STAMPEDE '13 Planned Friday at SWOSU
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Education (DOE), along with Oklahoma’s Ag in the Classroom (AIC) program, will host STAMPEDE ’13 this Friday, April 26, on the Weatherford campus in the Wellness Center.
Around 170 fourth graders from Weatherford’s West Elementary will descend upon the SWOSU Wellness Center accompanied by teachers from West Elementary and the surrounding area as well as teacher candidates from SWOSU’s DOE.
At around 10:45 a.m., students will rotate through 10 agricultural commodity group booths, or “stalls,” set up in the “Bulldog Barn.” The 20 minute presentations will feature interactive learning in a fun environment. The teachers and teacher candidates will attend a professional development session starting at 9 a.m. in the Education Building and then join the students for observations.
SWOSU Coordinator of Student Teaching and Field Experience Bruce Belanger said the STAMPEDE offers a unique experience for grade school students, teachers, teacher candidates, and university instructors and professors to interact and learn together.
Agricultural commodities participating include: AIC, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma Forestry Service, Oklahoma Soybean Board, Oklahoma Wheat Commission, OSU Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, OSU Extension Service, Shirley Lettkeman (AIC Teacher of the Year), and Stone Stack Mill & PBAR Farms.
