Large Private Camp Coming June 2-7 to SWOSU
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s campus is the grounds for a new summer camp coming June 2-7 to Weatherford.
The Oklahoma State Association of Free Will Baptist is bringing its “Encounter Camp” to SWOSU for the first of multiple years.
The five-night camp will host nearly 500 middle school/high school students from across the state of Oklahoma. The association chose SWOSU to be the camp grounds for this event because of its ability to accommodate their needs since the annual camp has experienced rapid growth through the years.
Kyle Bartel, director of the Fine Arts Center, said the camp will feature many group activities along with special guests that are sure to make their stay at SWOSU memorable. Tommy Swindol from Nashville will be guest speaker and the Jordan Howerton Band will perform nightly throughout the camp. Los Angeles-based comedy and drama actors known as Team Wordplay will also perform two nights.
Campers will be using Oklahoma and Stewart Halls on the campus, according to SWOSU Residence Life Director Chad Martin. All of SWOSU’s auxiliary services will be open for their use, providing staff and students of Encounter with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, campers will get the full SWOSU experience by having the opportunity to use facilities such as the rock wall and swimming pool.
Martin said SWOSU is happy to provide services for Encounter Camp as well as 33 other camps it will be hosting this summer. A complete listing of the summer camps is available on the SWOSU website at: http://www.swosu.edu/news/releases/2013/2013-05-16a.asp.
