South Korean Marimbist to Perform Monday at SWOSU
Ji Hye Jung, marimbist from South Korea, will present an open recital this Monday, June 10, on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford.
The public is invited to the free concert at 7 p.m. in Room 101 of the Berrong Music Hall.
David Bessinger, associate professor of music, said the concert is being held in conjunction with the 4th annual SWOSU Marimba Camp that is taking place June 9-12. Jung is a celebrated marimba artist and will play a variety of music for solo marimba and marimba with percussion ensemble.
Jung is assistant professor of percussion at the University of Kansas and lecturer in percussion at Cleveland State University. Born in South Korea, Jung began concertizing at the age of nine. She has performed over 100 concerts as a soloist with every major orchestra in Korea. Soon after relocating to the United States in 2004, Jung garnered consecutive first prizes at the 2006 Linz International Marimba Competition and the 2007 Yale Gordon Concerto Competition in Baltimore.
She completed a Master of Music degree from Yale School of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, both under the tutelage of Robert van Sice.
