Open Studio and Workshops Planned by SWOSU Art Department
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Art Department is holding a free community open-studio and workshop event on June 11, 12, 13, 17 and 18 on the Weatherford campus.
The public is invited to this free event from 3-7 p.m. each day in Room 415 of the Art Building.
The event will exhibit “Sun on Earth,” a huge and colorful fiber-art tapestry depicting western Oklahoma. The work was designed and created in a three-year collaboration process among a professional artist and a group of community volunteers. “Sun on Earth” has been traveling since 2010 to eight exhibitions throughout Oklahoma and Texas.
The core group that created the work consists of five western Oklahomans—Carol Goyer, Myra Jennings, Mary Segal, Cristina Stone and E.K. Jeong—who will share during this open studio event their experiences with the design, creation and exhibition of the work as well as their follow up projects, smaller individual fiber-art tapestries that each has created.
The Oklahoma Arts Council, City of Weatherford Hotel/Motel Tax Committee, Weatherford Arts Council, Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation and SWOSU have sponsored the community tapestry project, traveling exhibitions and workshops. For more information contact E.K. Jeong at 580.774.6824 or email@example.com.
