Wine Tasting and Music Event Planned to Raise Funds for Scholarship Endowment
June 13, 2013
An upcoming Wine Tasting & Music event planned June 29 in downtown Weatherford will benefit a scholarship endowment with the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the event that will benefit the Joyce Adams Curtis Memorial Scholarship, endowed by her husband, Torrey Curtis.
Joyce Adams Curtis served as instructor of voice, piano, choir and organ at SWOSU for 11 years.
The event begins at 7 p.m. in the SWOSU Museum/Weatherford Chamber of Commerce building on Main Street in Weatherford. Various wines, both international and domestic, will be available for tasting along with paired hors d’oeuvres. The evening will be complete with music and festivities.
“We guarantee an evening of fun and educational wine tasting expertise by professional wine tasters,” said SWOSU music professor and vocal area coordinator Daniel Farris. “Most importantly it is all for a very good cause. Our scholarship programs are valuable resources for recruiting music students to our university, and Joyce Adams Curtis was a great colleague who contributed to the success of our vocal/choral division. We hope everyone will come enjoy and support this great cause.”
Farris served as a liaison for various vintners while in Texas and learned his skill of wine tasting. He started in the Dallas Wine Club in 1992. He will be accompanied by a representative of Ambiente Wine Importing Company, Inc., of the Dallas/Fort Worth area who presents wines to such notable venues as Fedora, Into the Glass, and other upscale restaurants and retailers.
Tickets for the event should be purchased in advance as seats are limited. Price per ticket is $75 per person. They can be ordered by calling 580.774.3208, the SWOSU Foundation at 580.774.3267, and at the Weatherford Daily News. Corporate tables and sponsor tables are also available with additional wine tasting opportunities. Donations to the Joyce Adams Curtis Scholarship are also welcome.
