Camp Duke Starts July 15 at SWOSU

July 3, 2013

Around 65 incoming freshmen are coming to the first-ever Camp Duke at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Camp Duke is a three-day camp made available for any enrolled incoming SWOSU freshmen. The camp is not mandatory but will provide a time for more relaxed orientation activities and SWOSU-related, fun-filled events, according to coordinator Jessica Skinner.

“For our first year to do this, we are excited about our numbers and look forward to having these incoming freshmen on campus,” Skinner said.

The camp will start Monday, July 15, at 3 p.m. and end on Wednesday, July 17, at 2 p.m.

Skinner said the point of the camp is to prepare incoming freshman for their college years in a different way than the university’s formal New Student Orientation sessions. The camp will create friendships, familiarity and comfort with SWOSU and the city of Weatherford.

SWOSU classes begin August 21.
