Fire Up the Grill for a Tailgate Challenge at SWOSU
Area residents and Southwestern Oklahoma State University students have the chance to win big money this fall for just enjoying food.
The SWOSU Tailgate Challenge is taking place at every SWOSU home football game, and students and area residents/businesses/organizations are invited to participate in the challenge that has a different theme each game. This Saturday’s (September 28) theme is chicken, so all culinary creations must feature poultry.
Chad Martin, director of SWOSU Residence Life and the sponsor for the challenge, said the event is held on the west side of Fast Lane Field at Milam Stadium. There is no entry fee and ResLife will award $500 to the winning entry. Second place winner will receive a $200 and third place will get $100. Dishes will be submitted to a panel of three guest judges.
Teams need to register with the Residence Life office at 580.774.3024 to be eligible for prize money. A cooks meeting is held four hours prior to the kickoff of each home game, so this Saturday’s meeting is at 2 p.m. At least one team member must attend the meeting.
Teams will be provided a cooking space that includes an 8’X3’ folding table and 10’X10’ shade canopy. Each group must provide their own food and ingredients, as well as a grill. Teams may begin cooking five hours prior to the game, and creations must be presented for judging two hours before kickoff.
Future themes include: October 5, beef; October 26, pork; November 2, seafood.
