Teacher of the Year Participating in SWOSU Teacher Ed Program
Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host a Student Teacher Professional Development Day and Education Career & Technology Fair on Tuesday, November 5, on the Weatherford campus.
One of the speakers at the event will be Peter Markes, the 2013-2014 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. Markes’ session will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center Ballroom and his talk is open to students, faculty and the general public.
Markes is currently in his 12th year as director of orchestras at Edmond North High School. He is the conductor for the Oklahoma Youth Philharmonic and performs rhythm guitar and vocals for Kyle Dillingham and Horseshoe Road, a band that has performed in Korea, Taiwan, Burma, and Russia as a part of the U.S. State Department’s American Music Abroad program.
During the day, SWOSU will also host 20 schools/education entities who will be visiting with prospective teachers. Also, 15 vendors have registered to provide a technology focus at this year’s Education Career Fair.
