Astle Receives Golden Quill Award from Oklahoma Bar Association
Dr. Dorie Astle, associate professor in the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Social Sciences in Weatherford, recently received the Maurice Merrill Golden Quill Award from the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Astle was honored for her article titled “Juvenile Justice: Life and Death,” which appeared in the Aug. 17, 2013 issue of The Oklahoma Bar Journal.
The award is named in honor of Dr. Maurice Merrill, who served as a professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Law from 1936 until his retirement in 1968. He was held in high regard by his colleagues, his former students and the bar for his nationally distinguished work as a writer, scholar and teacher. Named in his honor is the Golden Quill Award that is given to the author of the best written article published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal.
Astle was selected for the award by the OBA Board of Editors. She is associate professor of criminal justice and sociology at SWOSU. She has served in a medical clinic and as a private attorney. She is a former partner with the Tulsa firm of Hall Estill and has been a licensed attorney in Oklahoma for more than 30 years.
