Beam Receives OREA Scholarship

Southwestern Oklahoma State University student Stacie Beam of Spencer recently received a $1,000 student teaching scholarship from the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA). Making the presentation is Dr. Don Wilson, president-elect of the Custer-Dewey-Washita unit of OREA.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University student Stacie Beam of Spencer recently received a $1,000 student teaching scholarship from the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA).

Beam is a senior English education major at SWOSU with just under a 4.00 grade point average. She is a graduate of Choctaw High School and the daughter of Allen and Teresa Beam of Spencer.

The scholarship will help Beam pay her tuition and fees while taking a leave of absence from her 35 hours/week job in the Registrar’s Office on the SWOSU campus.  Her activities include being treasurer of Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society), member of Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish Honor Society), member of Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English, and member of SWOSU English Club.

She will be doing her student teaching during the 2014 spring semester at Clinton High School, under the direction of Chad Walker, English teacher at Clinton High School.
