Dr. Peter Grant Named Dean of the SWOSU College of Arts & Sciences
Dr. Peter Grant has been selected as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Dr. Grant has been a member of the Department of Biological Sciences since 1988 and was chair of the department from 2002-2009. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Science in biology from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. in biology from Florida State University.
Prior to joining the faculty at SWOSU, Dr. Grant was on the faculty at Morris College in South Carolina and was an adjunct assistant professor of entomology at Clemson University.
At SWOSU, he has served as Faculty Senate President and was a member of the recent self study steering team for university accreditation. He was the faculty facilitator for the Oklahoma Scholar-Leadership Enrichment Program held on the Weatherford campus in 2009 and is the 2004 Bernhardt Academic Excellence Award recipient.
His research deals with mayflies, a group of aquatic insects that are common in Oklahoma waters. He is the founder and editor of The Mayfly Newsletter, an international publication, with over 420 recipients in 51 countries.
In the community, Dr. Grant has been an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America since 1992 and a participant in the Deer Creek Conservation District’s annual outdoor classroom since 1996.
Dr. Grant’s wife, Marci, is interim director of distance learning and an instructor in the Everett Dobson School of Business and Technology at SWOSU. They have two children, Emily and Nicholas, both of whom graduated from SWOSU.
